The Week in Developer Tools
Snyk was started with the belief that they can build a security solution developers love, and one that truly addresses open source security concerns. They believe this report validates their developer first approach and remediation automation focus are what customers need as they embrace open source and accelerate their digital transformation.
The new “Function” platforms are to microservices what microservices are to the monolithic application architectures. They offer an even more fine-grained approach to modularizing applications. Amazon announced a preview of AWS IoT 1-Click at AWS re:Invent 2017 and have been refining it ever since, focusing on simplicity and a clean out-of-box experience. Designed to make IoT available and accessible to a broad audience, AWS IoT 1-Click is now generally available, along with new IoT buttons from AWS and AT&T.
In 2003 Google created the Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) position. SRE teams have spread throughout the industry, and there are now ~25K SREs according to LinkedIn. With the rise of the SRE role, Redpoint believes there are opportunities to build large businesses that support the SRE workflow.
As more companies move towards this mode of application development, some expect to see a massive amount of innovation around AI and machine learning, application of AI to vertically-focused applications, and new applications for IOT devices driven by the ability for companies to build products faster than ever. Funding News
Jyoti Bansal and John Vrionis teamed up for one of tech’s best outcomes in recent years. Now with a new venture capital firm called Unusual Ventures, they’re looking to do it again – adding some twists to the VC playbook along the way.
The funding represents another major milestone for the company, following a banner year in 2017 that included a doubling of overall customers and more than 100 percent revenue growth; 140 new employee hires; and the opening of additional offices in London, Sydney, and Tokyo. Graphcool raised a $4.5 million seed round led by Kleiner Perkins and are rebranding to Prisma. In this post they share their thoughts on Prisma and their plans for the future.
